About Ed Bangalan and Comic Books

When I grew up, I told everyone I knew I wanted to be a doctor, but secretely I always wanted to be a comic artist.

Like every child out there I grew up drawing at an early age. We slapped our paints in kindergarten, we doodled on the walls, on the backs of important papers, crayolad the dinning room table, the floors, and even sometimes in books! Drawing at an early age is not something out of the ordinary.

What was strange was the desire to create comics. Frank Miller once wrote that the only job he could do was make comic books. Of course everyone has many skills that qualify us to do any number of jobs, but where is your passion?

Mine lies in comics. I love to make comics. I love making sequentials. I love drawing stories. I love creating the very process to make comics. When I think about doing other jobs I feel a dark cloud coming out of me, but just the very mention of comics and it seems to brighten my day. I feel alive.

For over 10 years, I've been drawing comics. In the college paper, online in Impromanga, Doujinshi, Tang's Monthly Online Manga, Centerstorm, and just recently in Druckduck. I've worked on titles such as Gilbert, Black Hat, Galden's Tear, Magical Girl Joel, Fight, Fight2, Tatterlimbs, Shock Absorber, and many more. Some amateurish, some with not the best art, but all very entertaining. With time and effort, I've come to a point where I think my art can carry my passion.

The most important things for me in comics are storytelling, pacing, and giving the reader a great experience reading comics. I am happy when I think people are reading my comics.
